We should know the hidden factors behind Oats as a meal, and how the corporate world has made everyone believe that Oats is good for health.
There is a research foundation in the USA and Europe to prove the positive effects of every product we consume. Even they can prove smoking cigarette is good for health for its added chemicals.
Such research foundation funds 10 to 15 universities and grants to figure out and prove why the product is good. Huge money is involved to do research to create statistics to make everyone believe. To name there is an industrial research center called Scanoats. Scanoats have three academic and three industrial partners.

  1. Lund University – was founded in 1666 and is ranked among the world’s top 100 universities.
  2. Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences – is a world-class unit in the field of life and environmental sciences.
  3. Swedish Research Institute – a joint research and innovation partner established through the merging of Innventia, SP and Swedish.
  4. Lantmännen has know-how in the entire oat development process; agriculture, quality and nutrition, and its world-class oat breeding program in Svalöv produces varieties for Germany, UK, Baltic States, the Nordic region, Canada, etc
  5. Oatly AB is a private company that develops, manufactures and sells oat-based foods in 27 countries, predominately in Europe but also in the US, China, and other Asian markets.
  6. Swedish Oat Fiber AB is a leading producer of oat beta-glucan fiber, oat oil and oat flour to customers in the food, food supplement, cosmetic, and animal nutrition industries worldwide.

The goal of ScanOats is to take a world-leading role in the development of unique products and applications based on oat.
Initially, people in Asia were persuaded to believe that eating rice and wheat is not a good diet. People were forced to believe through various statistical claims and tried to avoid regular native breakfast made of rice and wheat. Most of the people living in urban changed their breakfast habit by consuming Oats.
How Oats entered India?
PepsiCo entered India in 1989 and has grown to become one of the largest MNC food and beverage businesses in India. PepsiCo India has been consistently investing in the country and has built an expansive beverage and snack food business supported by 62 plants across foods and beverages. PepsiCo India’s diverse portfolio includes iconic brands like Pepsi, Lay’s, Kurkure, Tropicana 100%, Gatorade and Quaker. (Note – None of the products are healthy)
Quaker Oats was launched in India in 2006. With a marketing strategy, publicized that it has strong heart health benefits and has a soluble fiber called ßeta Glucan, which is scientifically proven to help reduce cholesterol. In India, tasteless Oats were made tasteful to change the eating habit and it is available in variants such as Quaker Nutri Foods, Quick Cooking Oats, Oats Plus and a range of flavored oats, including Chaat Style, Curry Magic, Homestyle Masala, Kesar flavor with Kishmish, Strawberry flavor with Apple and Tomato Veggie Surprise.
In 2010, Saffola, India’s leading brand of healthy cooking oil from Marico, launched its range of oats.
Kellogg’s first launched its range of cornflakes in India, in the hope of persuading Indians to change their breakfast habits. In 2010, Kellogg’s, the global giant best known for its cornflakes, also entered the oats market, with its ‘Heart-to-Heart’ oats, which the company claimed was tailored to the Indian palate. It emphasized the healthy nature of oats, and how it would help battle a stressful life.
In 2011, Horlicks, one of the country’s best-known brands of health beverages, launched Horlicks Oats, with an enhanced three-way promise: manage your weight, control your blood pressure and reduce cholesterol.
Past 15 – 20 years only we could hear the word oats meal and propaganda that it is good for health since the corporate giant entered branding the product. A huge investment was made in advertisements over mass media to brand the product. Now everyone believes Oats is good for health.
All the above details were presented to make you understand that there are big businesses and corporate hand in Oats sales. It is obvious that you cannot find a single article stating the harmful effects of consuming oats on a regular basis.
What will happen if you eat Oats daily?
Daily consumption of Oats is not healthy, and it has no nutritional value. If you consume Oats as daily breakfast you will become a diabetic patient. Believe it or not, the fact is, eating Oats is not a healthy diet. Once you become diabetic you will be forced to take tablets and insulin by your doctor. (Another big market to make you spend money for lifelong).
